North Ferriby VS Matlock Town

North Ferriby Football Club suffer defeat for the first time this season at the hands of Matlock Town on a Tuesday night at the Versa Sportswear Stadium.

The Villagers started the fixture the better of two sides, bringing a strong balance of energy and enthusiasm to the contest.

However, it was Matlock Town who opened the scoring after #9 Conor Washington played a dangerous ball across the face of the goal, before it was tidily tucked away by winger Jed Abbey.

A controversial call followed as North Ferriby’s Josh Thacker was played through one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The midfielder was taken down in the box, and before a penalty could be given, the offside flag was raised.

The Villagers received a dagger to the heart right on the brink of half-time as a thunderstrike from Matlock Town’s Errat-Thompson stormed into the roof of the net, doubling the visitors lead just before the break.

North Ferriby showed promising signs as they began the second half with some sharp movements around the visitor’s area, asking questions of the oppositions goal.

But their night turned from bad to worse as Matlock Town added to their goal tally in the 49th minute following a tidy finish from#10  Zak Goodson from inside the area.

As the game grew, Matlock Town became content with allowing the Villagers to hold the majority of possession for the remainder of the tie.

However, a lack of clear-cut chances and clinical finishing from North Ferriby, meant that the visitors would be going home with the three points, and their clean sheet intact.
