FC St Helens VS
North Ferriby
North Ferriby Football Club returned victorious from their FA Cup Extra Preliminary Replay after securing a late win away to FC St Helens, beating them by two goals to one.
It was evident from the off that Ferriby were 'up for it' after Charlie Carlisle saw a strong penalty shout turned away in the opening minutes.
The chances began to flow for Ferriby, with Lewis Dennison and Jake Day linking up well, yet the St Helens defence remained resolute.
Despite increasing pressure from the Villagers, it was the hosts who took the lead against the run of play ten minutes from half time with Luke Byron finding the net.
Never out of it, the Villagers response came two minutes before the interval as a perfectly weighted ball over the top found Jake Day to neatly slot home.
Things got a little heated as the tie entered added time and a stoppage in play resulted in the hosts being reduced to ten men.
As the second half got under way, the fiery tone soon crept back in to the tie, but the Villagers soon stepped back on the gas, creating the more solid chances.
Ferriby came the closest to taking the lead midway through the half as Lewis Dennison’s free kick flew just over the bar, and soon after Ferriby thought they’d taken the lead only for it to be disallowed.
Despite their first half setback, St Helens continued with their resilience despite the onslaught from the Villagers, that was until, a Ferriby corner landed at the feet of Mason Johnson who drived the ball home two minutes from time to secure the win.
The Villagers now look forward to see what awaits them in the next round.
