Following a promising showing from North Ferriby Football Club, an aurora of disappointment ensuedfollowing three-one defeat at the Versa Sportswear Stadium against Pontefract Collieries.
The Villagers showcased some good eye catching football at their Grange Lane home, but, it was chances converted that saw their West Yorkshire rivals claim the three points.
It was a prominent display early doors from the Villagers, placing their visitors on to the back foot with Josh Thacker and Rio Molyneaux primed to take an early advantage.
However, in typical football fashion, it was the visitors, Pontefract who would open the scoring inside the opening fifteen minutes.
Ferriby once again, never looked phased by the opening goal continued their pursuit of a goal with a further press on the opposition goal.
After some strong defensive through the mid part of the half, Ferriby ended strongly as Lewis Dennison, Rio Molyneaux and Adam Rowe all combined to come close for the Villagers.
It was a new half of football but Ferriby’s ascension very much remained as they were awarded an opportunity from the eighteen yard spot. Lewis Dennison stepped yo the plate an converted to bring Ferriby level.
A attritional battle ensued between the two, yet both defensive lines took charge in producing some fine tackles to keep the tie all square.
Pontefract found themselves ahead with twenty minutes remaining. Despite a fine stop from Ben Bottomley, Noah Payne latched on to the ball to find the back of the net.
Ferriby continued to display some fine qualities, particularly at the back but Ponte were able to secure a third goal, twelve minutes from time to ultimately see them claim the points.
