North Ferriby
North Ferriby begin the New Year with a point on the road as they saw out a goalless draw away to Grimsby Borough at the Bradley Football Development Centre.
A battling performance in North-East Lincolnshire saw a strong defensive display from Ferriby to culminate a strong festive period for the Villagers.
As expected, it was never going to be an easy affair south of the Humber, but Ferriby were searching early on as both Josh Whiteley and Mason Johnson came closest early doors.
The hosts responded thirteen minutes in, but Ben Bottomley was equal to the hosts opening salvo, claiming the ball well. Bottomley was on hand again, a minute last producing a sublime point blank stop.
With the tie becoming something of a tug of war tie, we entered the final fifteen and Ben Bottomley showcased his goal keeping skills once more, with yet another fine save to tip the ball around the woodwork.
A new half of football dawned, an following a number of changes Ferriby were soon in the ascendancy. Ferriby perhaps should have been ahead on the hour after Josh Whiteley’s one v one effort somehow evaded the net.
Ferriby continued in a positive manner after seeing an effort skim the roof of the net, Elliott Walker stepped up with a twenty-two yard free kick, only to see his effort claimed.
The tie once again descended in to something of a tug of war affair as both vied for an opening goal. Grimsby searched and searched but Ferriby’s defence proved too strong.
Into added time, Ferriby could have won it as a free kick just inside the Grimsby half was floated in nicely, finding Myron Gibbons free inside the eighteen yard box, his headed effort unable to hit the target.
