North Ferriby VS
Bridlington Town
North Ferriby claimed a Boxing Day victory as they defeated their East-Yorkshire rivals, Bridlington Town by three goals to one at the Versa Sportswear Stadium..
A confident first half display from the Villagers saw Josh Thacker edge closer to double figure whilst Lewis Dennison and Josh Dennett also starred and scored.
Some wise football from the Villagers almost saw them ahead inside the opening ten minutes: Lewis Dennison saw the ball run out of play allowing Josh Dennett to rifle a throw deep into the Bridlington Box, the ball fell to Josh Whiteley who forced his strike over.
The seven hundred plus crowd weren't to wait long as a fantastic application of pressure saw the Villagers win possession in a dangerous position, allowing the ball to be squared across the face of goal for Josh Thacker to net his seventh of the campaign.
Ferriby remained in the ascendancy as Josh Whiteley came very close to doubling the Villagers lead after seventeen minutes; his low strike across goal beat Jonathan Dash but agonisingly ran the wrong side of the woodwork.
Ferriby lead was extended midway through the half as Jack Johnson's floating cross from the right saw
Jonathan Dash fumble the ball into the path of Lewis Dennison whose deflected strike rippled the back of the net.
Bridlington responded well despite the two-goal deficit and Jacob Day got a strong shot away, only to see a fine display of goalkeeping from Ben Bottomley deny the visiting forward. Two minutes passed and Jacob Day was in the thick of it, this time finding the net.
With the lead halved, Ferriby reset and returned to a state of ascendancy and caught their visitors on the break, culminating in Josh Dennett lobbing Jonathan Dash to make it three-one heading into the break.
Out for the second forty-five and a more battling half would ensue; the Villagers felt they should have been awarded a spot kick six minutes into the half after Josh Whiteley drove into the eighteen-yard box and came to ground, but the officials weren't to entertain it.
Dennett and Dennison led the way as they looked to grab a fourth goal, and they thought they had, just before the hour, however, after liaising with his assistants, the goal was disallowed for offside.
The other side of the hour and Ferriby's defence were called upon as the Seasiders looked to respond and grab a foothold in the tie.
With the minutes ticking down, Ferriby once again went on the offensive as Lewis Dennison got himself into a good bit of space, his delivery into the box searched for Sam Aynsley at the back post, but the Seasiders cleared to deny the Villagers a fourth,
Ferriby now look to another home fixture Monday night as Big Billy Heath returns to the Versa Sportswear Stadium as manager of Lincoln United.
