Match Report
Redcar Athletic VS
North Ferriby
A weakened North Ferriby FC saw their extended unbeaten run come to an end following a three-nil defeat in the North-East against run away league leaders, Redcar Athletic.
Ferriby however, can depart this weekend's fixture with their heads held high following a decent performance in a fixture that was never a three-nil game.
The Villagers began the tie well and were untucky not to take an early lead. Charlie Clements low drive was forced out for a corner, and from the set piece, the villagers forced the ball toward goal, once again seeing Redcar somehow keep the ball out.
Despite Ferriby remaining in the ascendancy, the Steel men's opening goal subsequently came from what should have been a Ferriby free kick. Missed by the officials, Redcar broke, and Adam Boyes tucked away the resulting shot.
From then, the Villagers continued to go about their business with confidence. At one end of the pitch, Ben Bottomley displayed a goalkeeping masterclass and at the other, Charlie Clements once again denied by Josh Mazari.
With the game still in the balance, Ferriby headed into the break with confidence despite the one goal deficit.
It was a new half of football and Ferriby's ascendency continued to flourish as Sam Aynsley drove into space out on the right flank, squaring the ball into space forcing the Redcar defence to turn the ball out for a corner.
Ben Bottomley once again produced some fine goalkeeping before change came for the Villagers. Midway through the half, a second Redcar goal came out of nothing as Kev Burgess made it two.
With both sides still looking to attack the game, Ferriby looked to pressure their hosts with Walker, Clements and company all producing solid drives forward. However, it was Josh Thacker's low drive from twenty yards that came closest.
With the match edging ever closer to the full time whistle, Ferriby were unjustly on the wrong end of a third goal as Curtis Round's lob over Ben Bottomley saw out the tie for the Hosts.
