North Ferriby VS Blyth Spartans

North Ferriby advanced to the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy following another fantastic performance to overcome Blyth Spartans at the Versa Sportswear Stadium.

Ferriby’s fourth clean sheet in five games proved the key factor in the tie, following a well taken Myron Gibbons goalin the thirty-nineth minute.

Opening their FA Trophy campaign, the Villagers could well have taken the lead inside the opening minute after Myron Gibbons’ drive through on goal was deemed offside.

The opening thirty minutes saw a very composed North Ferriby, who proved the more dangerous, going through on goal. Sam Aynsley’s strike over the bar from six yards, the best chance of the half.

Following a lively spell towards the final moments of the half, the Villagers were reduced to ten after Jack Johnson received an arguable, second bookable offence.

Once again, Ferriby weren’t to be phased by the potential game changer, a fantastic Ferriby move saw Lewis Dennison do very well, and seeing the forward brought down, Myron Gibbons collected and fired the hosts into the lead.

It was a new half of football, and despite a quick start from the visitors, it was clear that the villager resolve wouldn’t falter.

A hard-working display continued as Blyth were turned away at every turn. At the opposing end, Ferriby began to produce some eye-catching football, in attempts to close out the tie.

Ultimately, a fine hard working defensive won the day as the Villager now head into the draw for the second qualifying round of the cup competition won ten years ago.
