Heaton Stannington FC VS
North Ferriby
North Ferriby’s Northern Premier League East Division campaign ended in defeat in the North-East following a two-one defeat at Grounsell Park.
Despite seeing Jack Johnson open the scoring for the Villagers, a Heaton goal either side of half-time handed Ferriby defeat on the final day.
Ferriby sought to open the scoring from a corner kick early on but were denied. Heaton then then caused the Ferriby defence problems, beating the offside trap multiple time but were unable to take the initiative.
Despite the home side’s ascendancy, Ferriby were the ones to open the scoring after Brad Williams delivered a fine ball in from the left, finding Jack Johnson at the back post to nod past Matthew Cassap.
Heaton were presented a fine opportunity to level, ten minutes from time but a fine piece of goalkeeping from Ben Bottomley denied them. Ferriby however, had a similar opportunity a minute later, Jack Johnson’s lob dropping agonisingly wide.
Heaton’s ascendancy began to encroach once more, and their persistence paid dividends as they pulled level shortly before the half time whistle.
It was a new half and a similar story, Tillo latched on to a Flett free kick only to see his headed effort fall kindly for Matthew Cassap. Heaton then broke and Ben Bottomley save a low driven strike.
On the hour, a better passage from the villagers culminated with Tom Corner, who spun on a penny and fired narrowly wide.
Heaton then went in search of a winner before Tom Corners glancing Header narrowly landed the wrong side of the woodwork. Enter the final ten a Lady luck played her part as a thirty-yard Heaton free kick took a deflection and into goal.
The home side could have made it three in the dying moments after prying the ball away from Tillo, Ben Bottomley showcased his goalkeeping prowess once again to keep them out.
