North Ferriby VS Cleethorpes Town FC

North Ferriby ended their 2024/25 Home campaign on terms with the Champions after hosting League winners, Cleethorpes Town in a nil-nil draw at the Dransfield Stadium.

A far improved and solid display from villagers, saw them on terms with a decent Cleethorpes outfit and claim a point, in an entertaining affair that had everything but goals.

A guard of honour from the villagers saw the visitors enter the field and early in similar fashion to Good Friday, it was Ferriby that took the early ascendancy. Sam Aynsley was denied after Ollie Battersby cleared, and Brad Williams along latched on to Jack Johnson’s unintended cross inside the opening ten.

The Owls began to turn the cogs and soon displayed their Championship credentials Greg Abbott receiving from a throw to deliver a delightful cross, the headed effort however, fell kindly to Ben Bottomley.

Ferriby looked to break the visiting defence through Brad Williams out on the left flank, however, it was Cleethorpes who looked the more likely to open the scoring, producing some attractive football, but Ben Bottomley showcased his goalkeeper credentials with some top saves.

The Villagers claimed the best chance of the half, seven minutes from time after seeing Sam Aynsley played in out on the right, his cross fell kindly to Lewis Dennison who was only able to turn the ball over for a goal kick.

It was a new half, and a similar story ensued at the Dransfield as Ferriby began well as Lewis Dennison came close in the opening minutes, forcing a corner ball. Ferriby were at it again just minutes later but were miraculously kept out by the Owls defence.

Cleethorpes offered their own attacking prowess, but Ferriby looked the likely candidate to score but were denied by the Champions strong defensive showing.

Fifteen from time, the Villagers were awarded a set piece twenty-five yards from goal. Lweis Dennison commanded the set piece, and his delightful effort narrowly dropped atop the roof of the net.

Into the final ten, and the Owls once again endeavoured to claim the spoils, however it was Ferriby who offered a strong defensive showing to fend off any advances to claim a good point heading into the final day.

Starting XI: Ben Bottomley. Jack Johnson, Josh Thacker, Luke Hogg, Niall Tilsley ©, Dom Roma, Sam Aynsley, Louis Kirk, Lewis Dennison, Brad Williams, Keiron Ceesay.

Unused Subs: Jordan Douglas, Adam Porritt.
