Cleethorpes Town FC VS North Ferriby

Chris Bolder’s Villagers came up narrowly short in a Boxing Day outing against league leaders, Cleethorpes Town at the MyEnergi Stadium.

The villagers remain in sight of the playoffs after seeing their early second half equaliser nullified by a scrapping winning goal.

It was evident from the off conditions weren’t perfect as the villagers claimed the opening salvo as Sam Aynsley fired direct at the man between the sticks.

What followed can only be classed as heroic, as the ferriby defence offered an array of fantastic stops to deny they opening goal of the game.

The opening goal eventually came inside the final ten of the half as Clee finally broke down a spirited Ferriby to open up proceedings.

It was a new half and Clee could well have doubled their lead after two minutes if it weren’t for another bout of heroic defending.

Moments later, the villagers cancelled out the opening goal of the game as Lewis Dennison rippled the net with a headed effort.

A rugged game began to ensue and on the hour, Clee were ahead once more after poking home from a spot of pinball wizardry following a corner kick.

Change came for the visitors to offer fresh legs and a decent effort came through Tom Corner, however his effort came straight at the Clee keeper.

Enter the final minutes, and Ferriby could well have salvaged a point after Mason Johnson cut in, set aim and curled one narrowly over the bar.

Starting XI: Ben Bottomley, Josh Dennett, Jack Walters, Joel Shortland (Jack Johnson 70’), Niall Tilsley ©, Dom Roma, Sam Aynsley (Mason Johnson 67’), Josh Thacker, Tom Corner, Lewis Dennison, Kieron Ceesay.

Unused Subs: Louis Kirk, Jordan Douglas, Max McMillan.
