Match Report
North Ferriby VS Consett
The villagers extended their unbeaten streak to three games following a Northern Premier League East Division draw against Consett AFC at the Dransfield Stadium.
Behind at the break, Ferriby had seemingly overturned the early deficit and were heading to a third straight league victory, but a late show from Consett put a halt to proceedings.
With the game underway, a cautious approach ensued with the first real opportunity coming from Jack Walters who dipped a headed effort narrowly wide. Moments later, Consett were awarded a penalty only for Ben Bottomley to get down well on his left and save.
Ferriby were unlucky not to be ahead midway through the half after Lewis Dennison saw a well struck shot denied by a fantastic stop from the visiting goalkeeper. It would be predominantly Ferriby for the coming minutes.
Josh Whiteley, Lewis Dennison and James Cadman all dictated play moving forward and created some fine opportunities for the home side. Inevitably, a solitary mistake from the villagers brought about the opening goal as Consett went into the break 1-0 up.
It was a new half, but a calmer aurora ensued with little on offer in terms of attacking play. Early changes were made by Chris Bolder with every intention on changing the outcome of the fixture.
And with the hour, came an equalising goal from the villagers. A delightful ball in from the left scrambled its way into the net. Two minutes later, the hosts were awarded a spot kick of their own and up stepped Josh Whiteley to convert for his fourth of the season.
The villagers soon found themselves with a little breathing space after Jack Walters nodded home from a Josh Dennet cannon. Ferriby’s extended lead was short lived however, the visitors broke free and squeezed a low shot past Ben Bottomley.
With the villagers looking to see out the fixture, you could always sense a further goal was inevitable and with the tensions growing, the inevitable happened, again a rare mistake from Niall Tilsley allowed Consett a opportunity, an opportunity that they converted.
