Match Report

Bridlington Town VS North Ferriby

By Sam Shepherd

North Ferriby FC fell to a frustrating Easter Monday defeat away at East Riding rivals Bridlington Town. The Villagers fell behind twice in the first half and despite dominating territory and possession in the second period they couldn’t find a second equaliser and hosts held on for a 2-1 win.

It took Bridlington just four minutes to get on the scoresheet. A good run and cross from the left was met by Ali Aydemir who reacted quickest as the ball flew across the box, connecting well to send the ball flying past Fisk in the Ferriby net.

This was an early setback but Ferriby grew into the game and Danny Earl had a couple of half chances midway through the half that both resulted in shots that were easily saved. The hosts had a couple of similar efforts too but the next goal would be scored by Ferriby. A long ball down the left was controlled by Earl who outmuscled his marker before finding Harry Lovick with a neat pass, Lovick was running out of room but managed to squeeze a shot away that went through the goalkeeper and into the net to draw the Villagers level at 1-1.

Frustratingly for Chris Bolder and his team the Villagers parity lasted just eight minutes as the hosts went back in front just before half time. Another cross from the left was met by a header from Andy Norfolk who steered the ball past Fisk and into the net to give the hosts a 2-1 lead at half time.

The second half was attack vs defence at times as Ferriby searched for an equaliser. Danny Earl had a shot saved and then did brilliantly to control a ball down the right, the keeper came out to narrow his angle and he shot agonisingly across the goal.

Ferriby kept pushing and from a corner a Bridlington defender headed the ball narrowly over his own crossbar. That summed the day up for the Villagers who kept pushing until the end and had several near misses but couldn’t find an equaliser as the hosts held out for the win.
