North Ferriby VS Stockton Town

By Daniel Tomlinson

North Ferriby 0-1 Stockton Town (Nicholson 90)

Stockton Town maintained their six point lead at the top of the NPL Division One East table with a gritty 1-0 away victory at North Ferriby.

A late winner from Adam Nicholson proved to be enough for the league leaders, with the defender poking the ball home after a goalmouth scramble in the 89th minute.

Ferriby almost salvaged a point with their own scramble in injury time, but it wasn’t to be. Stockton did enough to see the game out, with another three points a huge step to their title quest.

The Villagers, meanwhile, can take a lot of heart out of their display, in what was a closely fought battle with few chances. Both sides were well organised, with defences on top.

Finding their way in the first half, Stockton had a couple of snap shots at goal, with Ferriby using their wide players Amir Berchil and Josh Whiteley to try get in behind.

The two sides were level at half time, with the second half also an attritional battle.

Niall Tilsley went close with a header, while substitute Matty Dixon proved to a threat with his dead ball delivery.

Ferriby then had a strong penalty shout through Berchil. The winger was a nuisance was his dribbling, but it was waved away.

Approaching the end of the 90 minutes, Tom Jackson was forced into a fine save, but Nicholson was on hand to tap in the winner from the resulting corner.

Ferriby gave it last one push in injury time, but they just couldn’t force the ball over the line, with Stockton holding on for another big win.
