Match Report
Sheffield FC VS North Ferriby
By Dan Tomlinson
North Ferriby were pegged back to a 4-4 draw away at Sheffield FC. The Villagers led 4-2 with five minutes to go, but two late goals meant they dropped two points on the road with the side falling to sixth position in the league.
The Villagers looked destined for victory after captain Niall Tilsley headed home his second goal of the afternoon, but Sheffield, the worlds first ever football club, continued to push forward, and they got their reward with an injury time equaliser.
The game was a competitive battle throughout on a heavy pitch. It was an even contest to start with as both teams got a feel for one another. However, it was Ferriby who began to get on top.
They open the scoring through Tilsley, who finished calmly after Danny Earl’s cross was palmed out by the Sheffield keeper. The away side then doubled their lead through Danny East, who slotted home after a superb counter attack involving Josh Dennett.
Sheffield pulled one back as Connor Cutts produced a swirling strike to beat Ferriby keeper Jordan Douglas, with the Villagers taking a 2-1 lead into the break.
Chris Bolder’s side started the second half on the front foot. They had two penalty shouts waved away but soon got their reward as Tom Corner finished strong after Jack Johnson’s cross.
Sheffield then pulled another back through Rory Coleman. The left back unleashed a venomous shot that went across goal and found the net. But Ferriby then restored their two-goal advantage for a third time in the match.
After a goal mouth scramble Tilsley headed home and Ferriby looked to be home and dry. Sheffield, though, had other ideas and got a third goal as Luke Mangham’s header found the net.
They weren’t done either as Ferriby’s defensive frailties were punished again. A scramble in the box saw substitute Benni Ndlovu drive home to earn the home side a point, with an eight goal marathon coming to a close at the Home of Football Stadium.
