Stocksbridge Park Steels VS North Ferriby
By Dan Tomlinson
North Ferriby returned to winning ways with a hard fought 1-0 victory away at Stocksbridge Park Steels.
On his 100th appearance for the club, a goal from Levi Tarbotton was enough for the Villagers to take all three points, with the centre back meeting Joel Shortland’s crisp corner in the first half.
Ferriby, into action again after Tuesday’s tough outing at Hebburn Town, were pushed all the way by Stocksbridge, but Chris Bolder’s side were up for the challenge. Defensively, they were outstanding, showing plenty of grit and determination as they kept a clean sheet to boot.
The opening 45 minutes were a tough affair. However, Ferriby, led by captain Niall Tilsley, were resolute and they got their reward in the 14th minute as Tarbotton headed in from a corner.
After taking the lead, the away side had to roll up their sleeves once more with Danny East, who also had a shot saved, blocking a low Stocksbridge drive.
The second half was more of the same with Ferriby having a penalty shout for handball waved away. Bolder’s tactical nouse then came into play with the introduction of Josh Dennett who had an instant impact.
Dennett was dynamic on the right wing and continued to find frontman Tom Corner, who was excellent throughout, with both players getting shots away to test the Stocksbridge defence.
Ferriby keeper Jordan Douglas was then called into action, making a fine save as he got down low.
The Villagers then had to tough the game out, with a physical contest still alive going into seven minutes of stoppage time. But Bolder’s men had the grit between their teeth, and they held out for a superb victory on the road.
Ferriby XI: Douglas; Johnson, Tarbotton, Tilsley, Wallis; Shortland, East; Earl, Snelgrove, Whiteley; Corner.
Subs: Dennett, Forrester. Not used: Exall, Morrall
