Match Report
North Ferriby VS Prescot Cables FC
By Dan Tomlinson
North Ferriby are through to the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy after a 6-5 penalty shoot-out win against fellow Northern Premier League side Prescott Cables.
In an absorbing cup tie, Ferriby immediately started on the front foot, and after 67 seconds, they took the lead through Niall Tilsley's glancing header after Josh Dennett's long throw.
As the half-hour mark approached, Ferriby had a huge chance to double their lead as Danny Earl won a penalty. However, Tom Corner’s effort was saved by Mitchell Allen.
Prescott grew into the tie, with Lewis Exall, who was one of three forced first-half substitutes, called into action with a fine save. The away side also started the second half strong, and they got their equaliser as Nathan Koehler headed home.
However, Ferriby responded almost immediately, with Danny Earl getting on the end of Danny Clarke’s cross to finish well, but in what was a spirited second-half performance, Prescott drew level again through Kyle Sambor after a fine free kick was delivered into the box.
Ferriby looked the more likely team to get a winner late on, with Allen saving superbly from Omar Sanyang’s stoppage time strike, but the tie ended up going to penalties. After the first ten spot kicks hit the back of the net, Matthew Hamilton hit the crossbar, with Joel Shortland then stepping up to land the decisive blow, and with that, Ferriby’s passage into Monday’s draw.
