Match Report
North Ferriby VS Belper Town
By Dan Tomlinson
North Ferriby suffered their first defeat of the season on Tuesday night, losing 4-0 to Belper Town at the Dransfield Stadium.
In what was a high-quality game, the end result didn’t reflect the competitiveness seen on the field, particularly in the first half. Both teams gave it as good as they got, pressing hard and looking to get on top of their opponent.
It was a compelling watch throughout, with the tactical nous and pin point passing on show appreciated by a strong 473 crowd in East Yorkshire.
After Belper had the better of the opening exchanges, Ferriby certainly grow into the game. Danny Earl was a threat out wide and got a couple of shots on target.
However, it was the away side who struck first after a free kick in a dangerous position. After a threatening delivery, the ball fell to Kevin Bastos and he poked the ball into the net via the keeper's right post.
It was enough for Belper to take a half time lead with Ferriby having to come at them in the second half. Chris Bolder’s side did just that. They had to work for every inch but they never backed down against one of the favourites for the NPL Division One East title this season.
They kept pushing in a spirited showing, with the closest they got to an equaliser being a Danny East free-kick that came off the bar.
After Tom Corner, who battled hard all night, was fouled just outside of the box, East delivered a delicate swing of the boot, and was agonisingly close.
Unfortunately, Ferriby were then hit with a suckerpunch with Declan Dunn doubling Belper’s lead with a neat curling finish five minutes later.
That took the sting out of the game with Belper then adding some gloss to their victory with two further late goals. Bastos got his second and his sides third with a thumping strike before Alex Troke tapped home a rebound after a save from Tom Jackson, who was called into action many times throughout the night.
That took the result well beyond Ferriby, whose efforts didn’t deserve a four-goal defeat. They next head to Carlton Town on Saturday afternoon.
