North Ferriby VS Crook Town
North Ferriby FC booked their place in the next round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win over Crook Town.
The Villagers had to dig deep and score two goals at the death to overcome their Northern League opponents. After a cagey first twenty minutes the game came to life. Ferriby forward Tom Corner was dragged to the floor from behind. The referee adjudged the foul was inside the area. Retaliation from Crook defender Shaun Ryder saw him given a straight red card. Adam Bolder was given the task of taking the penalty, but his hard strike down the middle was saved by Alex Curran. The visitors would open the scoring when the impressive Nick Marley was played in behind the Ferriby backline. Marley slotted the ball through Tom Jackson’s legs as he rushed to close the forward down.
Crook defended well after taking the lead and denied the Villagers many clear opportunities.
With one-minute remaining Ferriby would level. Connor Brown was penalised for a high foot resulting in a free kick to the Villagers. Danny Emerton hit the free kick low and past goalkeeper Alex Curran.
Within minutes the hosts would take the lead. A long throw in by Josh Dennett was missed by the defenders at the front post. Ferriby captain Niall Tilsley was able to get in front of the defenders at the back post and put the ball past Curran. After the game, North Ferriby boss Chris Bolder shared his thoughts, “we are delighted to get the win and move onto the next round. We showed some good character and resolve to come back from one nil down and win it late on. There are lots of elements today that were not like us, and we’ll have to do some analysis on that. The positives are we’ve got the result and that’s all that matters in cup competitions”.
The Villagers will now travel to Liversedge in the next round on August 19th.
