Match Report

Basford United VS North Ferriby

North Ferriby FC were defeated 4-0 by Basford in their last preseason friendly.

Two goals in each half from the hosts were enough to give Chris Bolder plenty to mull over before next Saturday’s FA Cup contest with Crook Town.

The Villagers went close with just over ten minutes gone. Danny Earl jumped onto a loose ball and hit a curling effort that clipped the crossbar.

The hosts would take the lead when a defensive mix up allowed Jonathan Wafula to poke past Tom Jackson.

The hosts would double their lead just before the break, as Jonathan Wafula grabbed his second after rounding Jackson and slotting into an empty net.

The Villagers made a much brighter start to the second half. Niall Tilsley saw his goal bound header blocked from a well delivered corner.

The hosts would grab a third goal with ten minutes to go. Substitute Rev James was given time to dribble at the Ferriby defence before firing in a powerful shot past Jackson.

Basford would make it four a few minutes later. A long ball over was watched by both Niall Tilsley and Tom Jackson. Jackson’s clearance was blocked by Tilsley allowing Rev James to score again.

After the game, Chris Bolder spoke on what he learnt from the game, “We end our pre-season on a bit of a sour note. The goals we conceded today were disappointing and concerning. The play in the first half was not at our required standard. The second half was a bit better; the wind played its part in giving us a bit more territory. We don’t want to end pre-season this way but sometimes ending it this way can be a catalyst. We’ve played some good games and trained really well this pre-season”.
