Match Report
Thackley VS North Ferriby
CHAMPIONS AND BACK TO BACK PROMOTIONS!
North Ferriby FC are NCEL Premier Division Champions 2022/23.
The Villagers secured the title with a 1-0 win away at Thackley. Chris Bolder’s side knew a draw would have been enough to secure the title.
Bolder named an unchanged eleven from the win at Penistone. There was a change on the bench, with Danny Clarke replacing Isaac Hutchinson.
The first half was a tense affair for the Villagers. Their best chance before taking the lead coming from Amir Berchil. The winger beat two Thackley defenders, but saw his shot go wide of the goal.
The hosts thought they had taken the lead when a corner was put into the box. A Thackley attacker bundled the ball home, but the referee had already blown the whistle to ensure the home cheers were short lived.
It was the Villagers who would take the lead, good hold up play from Danny East allowed him to find Amir Berchil down the left-hand side. Berchil found himself behind the Thackley back line and pulled the ball across the box and found Josh Dennett. The Ferriby right back finished smartly, just on the edge of half time.
The second half was another tense affair. The Villagers needed a goal line clearance from Tom Claisse to deny the hosts.
The Villagers hung on and Josh Dennett’s first goal of the season sees the club promoted to the Northern Premier Division One East. It also signaled the first time in the club's history they have been promoted in back-to-back seasons.
After the game, Chris Bolder shared his thoughts, “over the course of the season this group of players have shown they can pretty much do anything in terms of if you want to pass against us, we’ll play great football against you. If you want to make it a little bit more competitive by making it more of a fight, we have players who can most certainly stand up and be counted when we need them to be. It’s a fantastic achievement to get promotion, but to do it back-to-back with a lot of this squad is special”.
