Match Report

North Ferriby VS Winterton Rangers

North Ferriby FC were defeated 4-0 by Winterton Rangers in a top of the league clash at the Dransfield, in front of a crowd of 804. A gap of six points separated the league’s top two heading into the fixture. The visitors came into the game in fine form and continued this at the Dransfield. The Villagers looked to bounce back from their first defeat since October, they fell 2-1 at Hallam on Tuesday.

Chris Bolder made three changes from his sides defeat at Hallam during the week. In came Danny East, Danny Emerton, and Amir Berchil. Tom Claisse and Tom Corner dropped to the bench.

It would be Winterton who opened the scoring. A corner delivered in from Paul Grimes found captain Lee Ridley who rose highest and headed the ball past Ferriby keeper Lewis Exall.

Winterton had a chance to double their lead with a free kick courtesy of Martin Pembleton. The midfielder’s effort going just wide of Exall’s post.

The Villagers looked to find an equaliser and had a couple of opportunities.

First, Danny Earl was flagged for offside as he looked to have levelled the score. Secondly, captain Niall Tilsley’s acrobatic effort from Danny Emerton’s free kick going just wide.

Chris Bolder looked to galvanise his side with a couple of half-time changes, Tom Corner and Danny Buttle entering the fray.

Despite the changes at the break, it would be the visitors who scored the game’s second. Martin Pembleton. A ball over the top of the defence allowed the Winterton number 8 to lift the ball over Exall.

Rangers hit the Villagers a further blow moments later. Paul Grimes showed persistence to race on a ball through the Ferriby defence. He pulled the ball back to his strike partner Josh Walker who placed the ball past Exall.

Danny Buttle nearly pulled one back for his side, as his shot was defended over for a corner.

Rangers would get their fourth when a free kick on the edge of the area was smartly dispatched by Steve Ridley.

The scores would remain the same and the visitors closed the gap to just three points at the top. For Chris Bolder’s side they experienced their first home defeat since October.

Chris Bolder shared his thoughts after the game,”it was a really bad day at the office for us, sometimes when you have one or two players who aren’t at it, you can sometimes get away with it, unfortunately, the vast majority of our players didn’t rise to the occasion today and didn’t play their usual game. I don’t think we’ve dealt with the pressure of the game today. Fair play to Winterton, they fully deserve their victory. We have to dust ourselves down and look at it now as a nine-game league, we’ve got a three-point league and must erase this performance”.
