North Ferriby VS Selby Town

North Ferriby FC  1,  Selby Town  0

A late Louis Kirk goal gave ten-man North Ferriby FC a 1-0 win over Selby Town. The tireless midfielder's header on the 84th minute was the difference in a hotly contested game at the Dransfield stadium. The Villagers were reduced the ten after Adam Bolder was sent off in the second half.

The game started with some Selby pressure. The Robins played some good football early on. Levi Tarbotton was needed to clear an attempt and another block prevented the visitors from testing Jordan Douglas properly.

The Villagers went in search of a goal and came close when Robbie Start delivered a ball into the box and Danny East rose highest but put his header wide of the goal.

Selby went on the offensive and again, played some great attacking football with some good interplay. What kept the clean sheet intact was some last minute defending after Jordan Douglas failed to gather the ball properly.

Josh Whiteley went close when he headed over from an Adam Bolder corner, which was cleverly delivered. Whiteley’s header went just over the bar. Danny East had an effort that hit the side netting. The attacker went down in the area and appealed for a penalty. The referee was in a good position to make a decision.

The second half took time to get going but when it did it was full of action. Adam Bolder delivered a free kick into the box and Tom Corner was there to head the ball. His headed effort was easy enough for visiting keeper Jody Barford.

The first major talking point of the game came when Adam Bolder saw a red card for a high challenge. The veteran midfielder went into an challenge with a Selby defender but his foot was high and made contact with the Selby player.

The Villagers, with 10 men, went in search of a winner. Josh Whiteley received the ball in the Selby half. He went on a run, taking a couple of Selby players out of the game. The energetic attacker unleashed a cannon of a shot but saw his effort come crashing back off the bar, with Barford beaten.

Oli Donald had a couple of efforts as he looked to open the scoring. First, the centre half shot from range and his ambitious effort went over the bar. Second, a brilliant save from Barford denied Donald as he headed goal bound from a Robbie Start cross.

The game’s only goal came on the 84th minute. After a succession of corners, Danny Emerton crossed the ball in again and this time, Louis Kirk was there to glance a header into the corner of the goal. The goal had been coming as Chris Bolder’s side had been applying pressure on their visitors.

The Villagers held on and defended valiantly at the end to repel any danger posed by the visitors. It keeps the Villagers in touching distance of leaders Hallam, who won 2-1 against Ollerton.

North Ferriby Fc boss Chris Bolder shared his thoughts, “We made life difficult for ourselves, all credit to Selby, first half they dictated possession with confidence and fluidity in their play. In the second half we are the better team with ten men, which happens, we’ve seen it and we’ve been on the other end of this. We were knocking on the door before a wonderful header from Louis (Kirk) which gave us the three points”.
