Match Report:

North Ferriby VS Retford FC

It was a disappointing afternoon for North Ferriby FC as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Retford.

The Villagers were punished for not taking chances and not taking the advantage of a Retford side who played the last half an hour with ten men.

Chris Bolder kept the 5-3-2 formation that was used in the victory at FC Humber last time out. Jordan Douglas returned in goal and Matty Plummer also came back into the side.

The Villagers started confidently and looked for a goal early. Chris Bolder’s men kept the ball well and moved the ball around effectively. Josh Whiteley had the first effort as he shot over the bar.

The deadlock was broken after 24 minutes. Danny Emerton put in a free kick and there was captain Niall Tilsley to nod home and put the Villagers ahead.

Jordan Douglas produced a good save from Jack Walters as the Retford winger slid in after a good cross from Zach Casburn.

Josh Whiteley hit the post on the edge of half time after we was played in by Danny Emerton who did well to set up the chance.

The second half started with a Niall Tilsley header that looked goal bound but was blocked before it could test Retford keeper Jon Kennedy.

Jon Kennedy produced some great saves in the second half. One of which was from Richard Medcalf who got on the end of a low cross from Josh Whiteley.

Alex Wonham scored for Retford to pull the scores level. A rare mishap from Levi Tarbotton allowed Retford a chance and they punished the Villagers with a great finish from just outside the area.

The visitors were reduced to ten men after Graeme Severn was sent off for a horror challenge on Josh Whiteley.

As the Villagers looked to take the initiative and gain the three points they were undone on the counter attack. Substitute Adam Scott turned Ben Leyland and slotted the ball past Jordan Douglas to give Retford the three points.

When asked to sum up his thoughts Chris Bolder said, “Not good enough, regardless of Retford only have two shots it’s not good enough. We’re hugely disappointed, certain individuals were not good enough. We created opportunities to put the ball into the box but we have to be out of sight with the chances created”.

Bolder went on to say, “It’s a results game. We are in a bad rut. I don’t know what more we can do without putting the ball in the back of the net. We can’t get in any better positions than what we were in today”.
