FC Humber United VS North Ferriby

North Ferriby FC start the new calendar year with a 2-1 victory at FC Humber United. Goals from Josh Whiteley and Danny East keep pressure on league leaders Hallam.

It wasn’t a vintage performance from the Villagers as they struggled to get their normal passing game going on a difficult pitch. It was a much needed victory for Chris Bolder’s men, who had gone three games without a win.

It was a game that didn’t have many clear cut chances. Tom Corner went close from a few yards out but was foiled by the FC Humber goalkeeper, Howard.

Josh Whiteley opened the scoring when he was slotted through on the right hand side of the box. Whiteley smartly slotted his shot past Howard to give the Villagers the lead.

FC Humber winger, Baxter gave the Villagers a warning shot as he fired an effort over the bar.

Danny Emerton had an effort that went over the bar, which was the last attempt from both sides in the first half.

The second half opened up with an effort from Tom Corner which hit the side netting.

It was the hosts who scored shortly after through Brandon Burke. A cross came in from the left hand side and Burke was there to head past a wrong footed Lewis Exall to pull the scores level.

The Villagers looked to find the goal that would but them back in front. Danny East went close with a free kick that was tipped over the bar by Howard. There was some last ditch defending from Humber to deny the Villagers and Josh Whiteley fired a shot wide as Ferriby continued to search for a second.

The games winning moment came when a Humber defender was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area. Danny East stepped up and he put the ball into the opposite corner to the one Howard dived towards.

The game was not over yet and there was a late scare as Burke lined up a free kick on the edge of the area after a foul. Burke hit his free kick into the wall much to the relief of all those with a Ferriby bias.

When asked about his thoughts regarding ending the streak of games without a win, Chris Bolder said, “Sometimes when you are on a bad run, like we were, any way you take three points is important. If you look at the balance of play, especially the first half, we completely dominate the game”.

When asked about the performance of the opening goal scorer, Josh Whiteley, Bolder said, “He’s got bags of energy and pace to burn. We played a slightly different system today to allow him to play up top with Tom Corner and I thought coming off at half time this system is working, we are getting numbers forward and good options. In the second half we have a chance early on and then once they’ve scored we’ve panicked a bit”.
