North Ferriby VS Parkgate

North Ferriby 2 Parkgate 0

By Ash Walker

North Ferriby’s unbeaten start to the season continued as they moved up to fifth place in the table having seen off Parkgate 2-0 at the Dransfield on Saturday. A goal in each half saw the Villagers take the three points against a resilient Parkgate who remain in twelfth place.

Ferriby had an eleven day break so came back refreshed but were unable to penetrate the visitors defence despite the amount of possession they had. They were dangerous especially from the long throws of Josh Dennett.

It was a first half of Ferriby creating opportunities as a Dennett long throw into the area saw a scramble with Danny East poking the ball home. Unfortunately the assistant referee raised his flag and the goal was ruled out for offside.

Just after another Dennett long throw saw Matty Plummer in a great position but his header sailed harmlessly wide. East had a further chance when he was put through on goal but his shot tried to chip Parkgate keeper Jordan Greaves but the ball went over the bar.

Matty Plummer was again in the centre of a Ferriby attack, this time he went on a mini run from the halfway line to just inside the Parkgate half and passed the ball to Jamie Forrester. Forrester was inside the area but sent a curling effort towards the goal but slightly wide of the post.

Parkgate’s top goal scorer Sam Ackroyd was involved in the action when he was the recipient of a clearance. The attacker was one on one with Matty Plummer but who cleverly tackled the Parkgate striker and erased any danger.

Soon after, the Villagers were on the attack and Jamie Forrester shot over after good work from Tom Corner. But, the main talking point of the first half was the goal that broke the deadlock but it was an own goal from Parkgate.

East received the ball on the right hand side after good play from the Villagers with his cross aimed at Corner. The striker put Parkgate right back Jack Birks under pressure and the defender put the ball into his own goal to give the Villagers the lead going into half time.

The second half began with Ben Leyland finding space on the left but his shot was well blocked was found in space on the left hand side. The left back’s shot was well blocked by a Parkgate defender before a Forrester shot was well held by Greaves.

The visitors had the next chance of the afternoon as Patrick Muirhead was sent through on goal by a clever pass that split the Ferriby defence. Thankfully the Parkgate strikers’ effort was saved by Jordan Douglas.

It proved to be an important save as a minute later East was fed the ball by a clever pass from Forrester and put one on one with the on rushing Greaves. East slotted the ball beyond the despairing Greaves to give the Villagers a two goal cushion.

Parkgate looked for a way back into the game and from a corner that the Villagers cleared easily Parkgate skipper Bradley Kilburn was waiting at the edge of the area and unleashed an effort that went harmlessly over the goal as Ferriby ran out winners.
