North Ferriby VS Brigg Town

North Ferriby 2, Brigg Town 2

Ash Walker at the Dransfield Stadium

North Ferriby welcomed Brigg Town to the Dransfield on Tuesday night looking to bounce back from a after a late goal cost them victory over Rossington at the weekend. Brigg on the other and were looking to bounce back after a thrilling 4-3 defeat to Selby.

The game started with an excellent tempo and it took only one minute for the first chance of the game as Levi Tarbotton was fouled on the edge of the area and Jamie Forrester sent his free kick over the bar. But it took just three minutes for the game’s opening goal, coming from Tarbotton after a great cross from Ben Leyland which saw him beat Miles Fenty in the Brigg goal.

The visitors were almost level straight away but a good save by Lewis Exall kept the Villagers in the lead. It was then the game then became quite scrappy with both sides not shying away from putting in challenges. Both sides also tested each others defences with Joel Shortland having the next attempt of the game with an effort from outside the area going over.

Former North Ferriby striker Scott Phillips had a great chance to level the scores as he met a great cross from the impressive Dayle Hutson. However, despite being on his own the striker saw his header hit the top of the bar and go out for a goal kick this before Tom Corner was at full stretch to reach a Danny Buttle cross and his header went over the bar.

Jack Bowskin finally punished the Villagers on the stroke of half time when he found space at the back post and poked the ball home to give the visitors a deserved equaliser. Ferriby were punished for allowing pressure for the last ten minutes of the half and not consolidating their lead.

The second half was just as scrappy as the first half with more robust challenges going in as both sides tried to gain the upper hand. It was the Villagers who had the first attempt of the second half when a cross from Joel Shortland caused chaos in the Brigg area before a Danny Buttle shot was eventually cleared by a Brigg defender.

However, it was the visitors who took the lead as the referee played an advantage and Robbie Start was put through on the left hand side. He put a cross into the box which was missed by both Ferriby centre halves and the ball fell the Alfie Usher who saw his first effort saved well by Lewis Exall but he didn’t miss with the rebound as he fired the ball into the top corner.

The Villagers rallied and for the rest of the half were on top when a corner from Jamie Forrester was sent in low and was missed by defenders and attackers. It eventually fell to Danny Buttle who hit the ball past Fenty in the Brigg goal to give the Villagers a deserved equaliser.

Ferriby pushed and pushed for a winner but kept coming up short as Tom Corner was put through by an excellent free kick delivery by Jamie Forrester but the shot was saved by the keeper. Danny East came close after good work from both Joel Shortland and Liam Nelthorpe but the game ended all square.
