Rossington Main VS North Ferriby

Rossington Main 1 North Ferriby 1

Ash Walker at Oxford Street

After exiting the FA Cup on Tuesday night North Ferriby were looking to return to winning ways and secure their second win of the season to remain unbeaten. They were looking on course until the 95th minute when Main equalised as Sam Kitchen latched onto a rebound to give his side a point.

It was an afternoon filled with frustration because as well as conceding the late goal the Villagers played the last twenty five minutes with ten men. Danny Emerton was sent off on 67 minutes with his side leading 1-0 for sliding in and clattering into a Rossington defender.

Rossington had the first effort on goal as Jack Watson capitalised on a pass over the top but he sent his chipped effort wide of Lewis Exall’s goal. Ferriby did have a penalty shout for a foul on Emerton turned down before a Niall Tilsley flick at the near post just went wide.

The deadlock was broken in the 15th minute when a heavy challenge on Levi Tarbotton resulted in a free kick in the Rossington half. Jamie Forrester sent the ball into the box and a clever flick on from Tom Corner saw the ball fall at low level to Danny East who got down to head the ball past Main keeper Kian Johnson for 1-0.

The major talking point of the first half, other from the goal, was a disallowed goal for the Villagers as Forrester sent in a corner which was eventually put in by East. However, the linesman adjudged a Ferriby player to be offside on the front post and the goal was denied.

The second half was a lot more eventful and started with the hosts coming close from a free kick as Paul Sherburn glanced his header just wide. The Villagers almost gifted the hosts an equaliser as Tilsley played the ball back to Lewis Exall which bounced back off the cross bar into the grateful hands of Exall.

On the 63rd minute the real drama began as the Villagers were awarded a penalty for a handball and whilst protesting Sherburn was sin-binned for dissent. It was down to Jamie Forrester to give the Villagers a two goal cushion as he placed the ball to the right only for Johnson to guess right and save the spot kick.

Moments after the penalty there was even more dramas Emerton was sent off when the match official deemed the challenge from the Ferriby winger as excessive as he dived in whilst pressuring the Rossington defender. The Villagers would have to defend for the last 25 minutes with 10 men.

The hosts nearly levelled a few moments after the sending off as Jack Watson was put through on goal again but he fired his shot across the goal and just wide of the post. It was then the turn of Niall Doran to have an attempt but Lewis Exall was down quickly to save his effort.

For some reason the referee indicated six additional minutes at the end of the half and the Villagers continued to defend resiliently for this period. However, Tyla Bell found space on the edge of the area and when his shot rebounded off the post Kitchen was on hand to poke the ball home.
