Harrogate Railway Athletic VS North Ferriby
Harrogate Railway 1 North Ferriby 1
North Ferriby travelled to Harrogate Railway on Tuesday night and opened their league season with a 1-1 draw. It was a game they should have won but ended the game with ten men when Danny East was sent off for retaliation.
It was East who was prominent in the early stages with foraging runs into the Railway half but sadly there was no end product. However, the visitors did open the scoring with just nine minutes gone when they were awarded a free kick at the edge of the home area.
It was lined up by Jamie Forrester to send the ball into the area for both sides to challenge for the ball. Instead Forrester placed a deft chip over the head of the Railway keeper Joe Wilton for a 1-0 lead for the Villagers.
The Villagers could have doubled their lead when a fierce Danny Emerton shot bounced off the keeper but just out of the reach of Scott Phillips. It was then great work by Louis Kirk to win the ball back for another Emerton shot but which this time went wide.
Iwan Heeley was put in the book and Ferriby were on the back foot and it led to Railway coming up with an equaliser through Kieran Greenway. This came a minute before the half-time break and the sides went in level at 1-1.
Levi Tarbotton picked up an early second half booking before Jordan Douglas was called into action as Railway pressed. Just shy of the hour East was allegedly stamped on by an opponent and his reaction saw him given a red card.
Ferriby continued to press despite being down to ten men with Emerton shooting wide before he had what looked like a perfectly good goal chalked off. He raced through to plant the ball in the net only to be called back for a dubious offside call leaving Ferriby to settle for a point.
Despite the sending off manager Chris Bolder saw this as a point gained but also possibly two lost in the grand scheme of things. Losing East was a negative but the way the rest of the team gelled afterwards was a real positive.
“The important thing when things don’t go to plan and don’t pan out the way you want them too is not to get beat,” said Bolder.
“Danny (East) has reacted to getting stamped on and was sent off so we just had to get on with it but the way we played in those last 35 minutes was commendable. The work ethic they have is tremendous so all credit to them.
“Even the chances we created after Danny went off with the substitutes again having a great impact could have seen us get more. I think we have been unlucky not to have come away from here tonight with more then only a draw.”
