Preview Report:

North Ferriby VS Brigg Town

By Mark Chestney

North Ferriby will take on Brigg Town in their Northern Counties East League fixture at the Dransfield Stadium on Saturday, kick off 3 p.m.

It has been a challenging season so far for the Villagers with postponements and floodlight failures making things difficult. However they are on a nine match unbeaten run as they entertain the ‘Zebras’ at the weekend.

Ferriby should have played midweek at Campion but due to inclement weather this game on Wednesday night had to be postponed. Last time out the Villagers beat Glasshoughton Welfare 2-1 on home soil thanks to a late Tom Corner effort and with seven regular first team players unavailable.

The game at Brigg at the start of the season was quite bizarre and which eventually ended in a 1-1 draw. The game was held up for some 40 minutes after Brigg goal scorer Stuart Longbone went down injured after a challenge and was eventually taken to hospital as a precaution.

Brigg led 1-0 at the time but Ferriby had skipper James Piercy sent off for an incident before Longbone was stretchered off. The game continued after a lengthy stoppage and it was in injury time substitute Russell Fry put the ball in the net from close range.

There is a gap between the two sides in terms of league placings with the visitors, a team who were looked at as early promotion contenders but they currently sit 19th. Ferriby meanwhile are in the promotion places in fourth place eight points off leaders Winterton Rangers but with a game in hand.
