Match Report

North Ferriby VS Dronfield Town

North Ferriby FC closed the gap on league leaders Hallam with a 1-0 win over Dronfield. A first half penalty from Danny East was enough to secure the three points for Chris Bolder’s men.

Chris Bolder made four changes to the side that drew at Parkgate last weekend. In came Louis Kirk, Tom Corner, Danny Buttle and Oli Donald. Donald signed for the Villagers from Cleethorpes during the week.

The Villagers made a positive start with Josh Whiteley’s pace causing problems for the Dronfield back line.

The first and only goal of the game came when  the Villagers were awarded a penalty. Robbie Start made a drive into the box and was fouled in the left hand side of the box. Up stepped Danny East who put his penalty down the middle, with the goalkeeper diving to his left.

Ferriby had their tails up and went in search of a second. Danny Buttle headed the ball goal wards from a Adam Bolder corner. The winger’s header was well saved by Dronfield goalkeeper Nick Siddons.

Niall Tilsley went close for another header from a corner. This time the centre half was free but headed the ball over the bar.

The Villagers were reminded of the Dronfield threat counter attacking threat. Callum Mawbey beat Levi Tarbotton to the ball and drove in towards the goal. He chose to shoot rather than square the ball to his strike partner in space. His effort went wide and didn’t test Jordan Douglas.

A free kick from Adam Bolder gave the Villagers another chance but his free kick was low and easy for Siddons to handle.

Josh Whiteley had a chance but his volley went wide of the goal.

The second half was a more frustrating affair for the Villagers, with Dronfield defending well and playing more football.

Man of the match Josh Whiteley had another effort after a mini Ferriby counter attack. Substitute Richard Medcalf played the ball to Whiteley but his effort went over the bar.

New singing Oli Donald was in an advanced position and crossed the ball to Medcalf. The Ferriby striker headed the ball over the bar, when he should have hit the target.

The Villagers saw the game out and gained a massive three points. This coupled with the 5-4 defeat for Hallam gave the Villagers a new lease of life in their attempt to gain automatic promotion from the NCEL division one.

North Ferriby assistant manager Paul Robson was asked about his thoughts, “It was comfortable. There was the work rate and desire from the lads today to get the result and that was tremendous. As we have seen in the past, missed chances will always allow teams to have a couple of efforts at goal and cause a little bit of tension towards the end of the game. If we take our chances we win the game comfortably but the lads managed the game well and I love a 1-0 result”.

Robson was asked about the impact new signing Oli Donald made to the side and the changes in tactics the signing allows, “Oli coming in is a very very solid player and is very consistent. We have discussed moving Levi to right back for a while now me and Bolds. He’s such a good defender and is very good on the ball and has all the attributes to play full back”.
